The busier life gets the more you have to ask yourself this question about everything you do, “Why?” The truth is, if we can’t give an answer as to WHY we do something then we probably shouldn’t be doing it! Or, if we do know WHY but the answer we have isn’t really that great of an answer…maybe we shouldn’t do it?

For me, my life has a “hierarchy” or what one my call a “priority list.” What I mean is that there is an order in which things operate, to which I make decisions and rule out options based on what is the top calling and priority in my life! It runs as follows (and in this order):

  • Christ Follower
  • Husband
  • Pastor
  • Blogger

So the question I have to ask myself is WHY do I blog? Now, with that I may have an overwhelming amount of questions that come streaming though my head…

  • Why do I spend time writing articles?
  • Why would anyone care what I have to say?
  • What makes me so special that people would take time out of their day to check it out?

But none of these are the real question I need to be asking. The ONLY question I have to ask myself is this…”Am I called by God to write this blog?” That’s it!

Everything in me leads me to believe I am! But it is not something that takes priority over me being a Christ follower, husband, or a pastor (at NewSpring Church).

I actually struggled with starting this blog for a long time before I started. I wanted God to totally remove the thought from my head and heart! It seemed like too much work, too open of a path for criticism and too much of a chance that I might screw up, fall flat on my face and embarrass myself, my family or my church.

For whatever reason I feel led by God to write this blog. And when you get to the heart of it all; there are a few key reasons for me as to “WHY I blog…”

1) To glorify God, not myself

If you get a chance check out here! This is my “about” page for my blog and it explains this point a little more at the bottom of the page. The main reason I blog, I write, I do whatever I do on this blog is to bring honor & glory to Jesus Christ. If I ever forget that, if I ever draw back from that, if I ever try to take attention away from that…I have lost the point of why He got me started on this thing in the first place!

2) To share the news about what God is doing at NewSpring

I have never been a part of something so incredible as what God is doing here at NewSpring. And in case any one is curious I am a FANATIC about NewSPring and feel called by God to serve here until the day I die (God rest my soul, when that happens, hopefully a long time from now).I feel called to share with others the AMAZING things God is doing at NewSpring and how awesome our team is (volunteers & staff) and our senior pastor, Perry! If you get a chance, you should definately download some of the podcasts that we put out there from our services each week! You can find them in the iTunes store under “NewSpring Church” podcast.

It is so encouraging for me to hear Perry speak with the passion of God and not let anything else distract him!

3) Network with other Children’s Ministry Peeps

My first few years in the ministry I wanted so bad to get in with those CM people that had learned the ropes of CM and learn from them. I just couldn’t get to them! I couldn’t learn from them unless it was at a conference or in a book! Which is fine…we are all busy and that is ok!

For me though, the vision for this blog is to network with other CM peeps and pastors out there (and even other peeps) and work together to tackle this big thing we call…CM! We are called to a purpose…to reach families for Christ! Putting our heads together and working for God’s glory never hurts. At least that is what I get from this!

So far I have found some great guys to network with…you can find their links here!

This week is going to be SO GREAT! I am so eager to share some of the AMAZING things God has been teaching me! This is definately going to be a HUGE week for “Just Pudge” and I am so excited to get to share it with you guys! :)

    Hi,
I just found your blog. I am a HUGE fan of Perry’s blog and get so much out of it. I am the children’s pastor at a West Des Moines, IA church plant, Jordan Creek Family Church, that is 1 1/2 yrs. old. We meet in Jordan Creek Mall in Century Theaters. I am always looking for people who are smarter than me to gain knowledge and share ideas, encouragement and fun stuff. I’m finding that blogging helps me communicate with parents in a way that just doesn’t happen at church due to time and set-up and tear-down issues. Parents can get to know me a little better and I can communicate how God is moving and directing our services, upcoming stuff, great things that happen in Creek Kids and of course all the funny stuff the kids tell me. Hope we can have some great dialogs! Bless you all at NewSpring. I gotta visit sometime!

    Lori,

I am so pumped you found the blog too! Perry is an amazing leader and his blog ROCKS! Also, if you are wanting to come check out NewSpring you should sign up now for the UNLEASH conference 2008 (this will be our second one). We just opened registration and it’s dirt cheap!
