There’s something I’m learning.
It doesn’t make much sense though…I’ll warn you in advance.
Still interested…?
Ok.
But f1rst. let me set it up for us…
Growing up we learn things by the books. We learn that problems have solid outcomes with solid answers. Simple problems with single solutions. 2 + 2 = 4…always.
It just is.
As we develop (allegedly, meaning as we “grow”), a new way of thinking emerges that seems to disrupt & contradict this previously learned “learning process.”
We no longer want to accept things as simple single solutions. We want to “test the waters” with things that don’t line up with how we think/process/desire. We want to see if a+b=c or if a+b (could)=d.
It could be.
Interestingly enough, this behavior sticks with us…always. Its another way we learn. It’s why our teacher didn’t just give us the answers in school, they made us dig for it.
And, if we dug, we learned “it” better.
“It” stuck with us…longer.
We applied “it” more.
What doesn’t make sense about all this is how it presents us with two ways to teach/lead/guide that both present “risks”…
- Provide our people with the answers & attain quicker results, but risk little to no growth in them.
- Present our people with the challenge & risk slower results, but attain growth in your people.
Either way, we risk…
Leaving our ONLY question to be, where are we willing to take the “risk?”
(What are your thoughts…?)

That’s exactly the manner of how we run our business at ch2m.com. Nothing is “given to us;” it is attained by our people, thru challenging projects, which produce really cool results! We have the “Team” available to us as a resource, but we’re encouraged to “dig” on our own! Good stuff, man…
