Ok, so…maybe an open post where others can create a story isn’t such a great idea. My bad y’all (lol). At least, I am guessing that not everyone is comfortable writing a nice little short story (yesterday’s post) based on the results…which is ok!
However, based on a personality profile I took recently at work (not one to see if I am “CRAZY” or something, but one that gives me more insight to “who Pudge is”) the word “can’t” isn’t in my vocabulary. So let’s see if we can revamp this idea and still have some fun with it.
AND since I know how busy work can be, both these posts will be up all weekend to give you a change to write a lil somethin’ (I guess I am trying to sound cool now?). Here’s what we will do:
- If you would like to submit a story (which can just be an intro to a story…something to build curiosity) please do so on yesterday’s post “create-A-story.” Pick one of the five “loglines” you will see there and just write away.
- If you would like something a little simpler this post is the place for you. Below you will find a short story (based on one of the “loglines” from yesterday). The goal is to continue writing the story through different people. So you would pick up from where I left off and just write away about what happens next. This can be one line or 500…either way, all we are doing is writing a story together.
Sound better?
Now before I put the story out there I want to toss out some motivation…we will pick a winner!! That’s right… a winner…!!
And since these”creative exercise contests” are going to become something we do more frequently we are going to keep points (just for fun)
!
- 1st place - 100 points
- 2nd place - 75 points
- 3rd place - 50 points
- Just for entering - 35 points
How will the winner be picked? The winner will be picked based on three things:
- Imagination
- Humor/ curiosity built
- Fun
That’s right…there’s no grammar, spelling, blah blah blah basis on picking the winners. I hate all those writing rules and if you read this blog long enough you will find…I’m not very good at them either!
Oh well…I still love a great story!
I know what most of you are thinking…”Pudge has lost it…he’s flipped, someone call the crazy wagon.” But seriously, I am great!
I know it is a long shot to get everyone involved in something like this. But the way I see it is, I gotta take risks, and for some reason I am very eager to have more creative exercises here for us all to participate in. What better way to grow our creativity?
Like Dave was saying in a post he did this week…our creative hoses can get a kink in them and we just have to work them out. So, let’s work them out together!
This “contest” will run through Monday (Memorial Day here in the states) and the winners will be posted on Tuesday! So let’s get to it
, (to read the story…click here–>)
Most suburbia towns are normal. They have people who have jobs & families, live in houses, and go about life…normal. That’s how it was in the town of Ordinary until Tommy Jolly had something to do with it…
Young Tommy Jolly was like most boys…adventurous, fun, and wild, but in Ordinary those things don’t fit. So, Tommy needed more and he was constantly searching for it. Then one day it found him! As Tommy was walking down the south side of his street he noticed a box sized hole in the roof of a nearby house. Normally Tommy might see the danger and flee the scene, but not today…Tommy had an appointment with destiny!
Tommy adventurous side took over as he approached the house. He made his way inside and searched fervently for the room that held the secret to this hole in the roof. Finally Tommy made his way up to and inside the attic. Little did he know that what he was about to find in the next few moments would change his life forever!
There it was, sitting perfectly in the middle of this attic was a HUGE box with some sort of cloth attached to it with strings. Tommy assumed this to be one of those contraptions that helped items & people drop from planes slower, but that wasn’t his focus. What caught his attention was the small, old and dramatic looking letter attached to this large box which read:
“Help needed. Come quick. Without your help we will surely perish.
Note: Answering this plea could result in your own demise. Be warned. However, to accept this absurd plea for help simply enter the box through the top.”
That was it…no signature, no further insight…just “help.” After standing inamazement with his mouth wide open for what seemed like hours Tommy quickly jumped at the opportunity. He began to find a way to the top of the box. The warnings hadn’t swayed him one bit! This was his chance for adventure and he wouldn’t miss it for the candy in Dr. Pepper’s Store.
Finally, he reached the top and found a small hole. He lowered himself, feet first into the box and fell further than he thought he should. He couldn’t help but notice that when he landed things were different…the temperature changed, the hole he came in wasn’t there and he heard voices.
He now remembered the warning he had ignored and although he wasn’t sure if he was excited or terrified yet he did know he wasn’t bored anymore. He didn’t understand it, but he knew that somehow, someway he wasn’t in “Ordinary” any more and that everything was about to change…forever!
To be continued…

Somehow in my excited haze to write the next best seller on the planet, I skipped over in my mind it was to be a progressive story. Shoot, I already have an outline for 900 chapters…. Ok ( as Maxwell Smart would say)….Would you believe 9 chapters? , would you believe 9 words?

I’m pretty new to the bloging world…I’d like to write a story but am not sure where to write it…do I do it here where I’m writing now?

Alice:
Yes, that is all you would do have to do to submit your story. Just drop your story as a comment and you’re as good as done! You can even write it in word and then copy and paste it over when you are ready!
I’m sorry, I should have given some instructions on that part…I am such a goof!
Happy blogging (story writin’)!

The day began, just like another day. I got out of bed, had my quiet time, fixed my breakfast, and ploped in front of the TV.
The nbc morning news was finishing the daily news report. All of a sudden as I was sipping my coffee, I see and hear something
strange. My face appears on the TV. The person sure looked like me, but her name sure wasn’t mine.
This started me thinking. Had I been lost or had a memory loss somewhere in my past. Who was this person who looked so
much like me. Was it me???
So I called the net work, and to my surprise……….

My creative bones are dry. Maybe give a beginner creative assignment and then an advanced one!

(ahem) So I called the network and to my surprise, the face on the screen was actually a sailor from North Greenwich, Scotland. At first, I thought my dad had messed up somewhere along the line, but it was quite the contrary. The person that NBC news had so randomly interviewed was actually a contestant for the next reality series “Arrgh! So Ye Can a Pirate Be?”. I remembered that my family is Scot-Irish, so the resemblance of the scurvy contestant wasn’t so surprising. I also remembered that I like pirates. A LOT. So much in fact, that when I was fourteen–

I did a screen test for the original ‘Pirates of the Carribean’, ‘Pirates of the Bahammas’
Anyway the person on the screen had a very interesting connection, it turns out they were………

So much so in fact, that when I was fourteen I spent the entire summer swimming around the community pool with a butter knife in my mouth. Nobody messed with me, I was a scallywag. Anyway, I set my dark roast back down on it’s coaster and began to ponder the possibilities of joining a Pirate reality series with a distant relative. I had to at least explore the chances, I mean, this is just too random for just a Tuesday morning coincidence, right? I could actually have a shot, right? I could actually BE a Pirate! I really want to BE A PIRATE! With this new found excitement I quickly dashed over to my Dell laptop to check out the website and unbelieveably found……….
