So, I’m reading these two books right now…

I’m learning many interesting things as both these men begin to break down the truths they’ve learned in the fields their in.  However, what’s most interesting to me is when they say the same thing, in different ways…

FIRST…WHO (team) then WHAT (results)

  • Jim Collins (Good to Great) said…”If you have the wrong people on the bus, it doesn’t matter if you are going in the right direction…you still won’t have a great company.”
  • “If you begin with ‘who’ rather than ‘what’ you can easily adapt to a changing world.”
  • Many companies focus on WHAT first then hit a lid because the WHO couldn’t keep up.
  • “Good to great” companies focused on WHO first & as they got them, they took off on the WHAT & went further faster.

FIRST…EMPLOYEES then CUSTOMERS

  • Lee Cockerell (Creating Magic) said…”In short,  great leadership leads to employee excellence, which leads to customer satisfaction and strong business results.”
  • “It’s not just the product that makes for satisfied customers, it’s the way they are treated…”
  • “If you want your employees to deliver excellent service, you’d better provide them with excellent leadership.”
  • In other words, if you focus FIRST on the customers, you are going to find yourself with some happy customers and a HIGH turnover rate on employees.

In essence what Jim & Lee are saying is WHO you lead and HOW you lead them matters & it WILL affect WHO you are striving to reach.  So , lead well!
