Gaining credibility with people isn’t easy. It’s hard. It requires a servant’s heart and a lot of humility. As leaders, gaining credibility is KEY to the strength of our leadership & the teams we lead.
All that to say, a great friend of mine, pointed out a great text in the “Maxwell Leadership Bible” yesterday that I had to share. To clarify, the following isn’t my own words, but his. Regardless, I just had to share…
The Law of Buy-In: Moses Gains Credibility
Exodus 14:1-28
The approach of the Egyptians army terrified the Israelites, an they placed heave pressure on Moses to handle this crisis. Moses didn’t panic, since he had seen the power of God’s handiwork. Instead, he exuded both poise and peace, winning for himself credibility as a leader. Through one incident he became the nation’s “go to” leader. Note what gave him credibility:
- He projected calm instead of craziness (Exodus 14:13a)
- He projected confidence instead of cowardice (Exodus 14:13b)
- He projected clarity instead of confusion (Exodus 14:15
- He projected competence instead of clumsiness (Exodus 14:21,22)
Moses continued to model for the the people a calm, confident, clear & competent spirit. NOT because of WHO Moses was, but because Moses knew WHO GOD is!
Gaining credibility isn’t easy, but then again, the goal isn’t to gain credibility. The goal is to simply trust & obey the Spirit of God in us…God will take care of the rest!
