Teams have a power to them that we many times take for granted. At the same time, teams aren’t easy. I’m learning they require many things to not just develop but to continue to be healthy and grow…
1) VALUED
Teams are a group of people. People that have lives, families, feelings, insecurities, strengths, challenges and most importantly…a story. Each member must feel valued personally. A team that does not feel valued and respected will not last very long.
2) UNIFIED
One of the main things that makes a team, is their unity. A team is a group of people unified on a common cause, goal and/or purpose. Teams must be reminded of that vision and unified behind it constantly.
3) OWNERSHIP
A healthy team is a team that has ownership in what they are doing. Each individual not only feels they have a part but a voice that is heard and respected. They aren’t working to accomplish someone else’s vision…its a vision they own themselves.
4) ENCOURAGED
No one wants to serve on a team where they constantly feel discouraged and deflated. Celebrating the wins we experience together is a MUST to keep a team healthy and growing. A encouraged team is a fueled team and a fueled team is a powerful team.
5) CHALLENGED
Although they may not always claim it, teams want to be challenged. They want to be pushed and encouraged to the next level. Teams don’t want to stay the same, they want to be the best they can be. They want to know how they can improve.
6) FUN
As the saying goes, “Teams that play together, stay together.” Having fun together and sharing life are many times the foundational moments that break the barriers down within a team. However, fun that lasts can’t be manufactured…it overflows.
On top of all this, the CORE of a team centers around the relationships that develop within it. The community that isn’t forced but that overflows from their unified service together.
Teams have power…the only way to tap into that power is by making sure we are personally tapping into the team first.
