Creating margin is key to healthy growth. At the same time, if you are like me, the question everyone has is…what does “creating margin” even mean and what does it have to do with me as a stay-at-home parent, leader, teacher, artist, nurse, etc.?!
PLENTY! ![]()
Examples of “margin”…
- Profit margin = net sales / gross profit (your profit…or debt)
- Page margin = page space used / page space (the extra space on the side of the page)
- Operating margin = cost of goods & operating / company income (what’s leftover)
Each example demonstrates a relational ratio between two factors where “MARGIN” essentially is “whats leftover after whats needed has been expended!” So, when we say we want to “create margin” we are saying we want to create more…time, money, resources, etc. than what is “needed!” But why?!
Creating margin enables us to not only BE/DO better at what we do…it frees us up to enjoy it more! It enables us to be proactive, think, invest & breathe! But margin doesn’t just appear…it’s intentionally created! But how?!
I’m learning creating margin evolves from the following…
- Seek more Jesus everyday (He is my guide)
- Stay obedient to Jesus’s calling/prompting (His plans are WAY better than mine)
- Set clear goals for where we WANT to be (not just where we NEED to be)
- Mange & protect my time wisely (no one else will)
- Build a team of owners & leaders (not clones & doers)
We all need “margin!” We all want “margin!” The question is, are we willing to do what we must, to create margin (even if it means more hard & intentional work)!? ![]()
Just what I’m learning…
