One of the freedoms I always want my team to know & feel they have is to “speak freely” with me! I want them to know I’m always there to listen to them, even when they feel the need give push back!

Many times leaders fear the moments when their teams give push back, but I’ve learned to value those times! I know I can’t lead as well without the counsel & wisdom the Spirit provides through them!

At the same time, I’ve also learned there is a healthy way to “speak freely” and an unhealthy way!  With that, here are some basic principles, I strive to follow, that help ensure healthy open communication with each other:

  • never bring personal conflicts up in public - speak freely privately – Matthew 18:15-16
  • never keep score of “wrongs” -  keep short accounts  – 1 Corinthians 13:4, 5, 6, 7
  • take the issues to the right people  – Matthew 18:15-16
  • squash gossip & slander sessions, edify-encourage-coach through all challenges  – Ephesians 4:29
  • curb the attitude, passion still has respect (arrogance doesn’t) – Ephesians 4:29
  • once communicated, we buy in together with the call that’s made, always have your leaders back – 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13
In the end, I always want my team to share openly with me & I want them to know that I ALWAYS have their back! Loyalty is even more priceless than “push back” and loyalty must be earned & exercised through all communications!

Just what I’m learning… :-)
