Interestingly enough, going green seems to be a touchy subject now a days. There seem to be more green people in the world today that have a strong desire for even more peoples to become green.

Me, I’ve never seen one of these green people but I’m sure of their existence! I know because I’ve seen the pressure that’s been applied to many organizations to be more green. Apparently the rumors go that if you aren’t green your organization is evil and that if you aren’t green Jesus doesn’t love you (and you don’t love Jesus).

Personally, I’m not sure of the validity of these green rumors! I think your organization can be great no matter its color and the song “Jesus love the little children” answers the other question, now doesn’t it? :)

None the less, I too have experienced this pressure to be green and I wanted to share with you some things my family and I have done to be more green:

  • We pour water we don’t use on our plants instead of using fresh water
  • We try to buy more green clothes
  • We recycle our used paper products
  • I have thought about getting a green tattoo
  • We drink more water & use less water (or something else green positive about water here)
  • We recycle our used plastic products
  • We use green money 100% of the time
  • We don’t use plastic bags at the store anymore (these are non-recyclable items)
  • We painted our bathroom green (actually its called lettuce green…oh nevermind)
  • We recycle used aluminum/metal/etc. products
  • We encourage friends to recycle
  • I’m thinking about starting a non-profit group called “save the green crayons” (if being green matters, just imagine the value in green crayons)
  • We recycle our used cardboard products

Ok, the truth is…going green has nothing to do with Jesus and it has nothing to do with whether you are a good person or not. Do we do things to be more green at our house? YES, but it’s because we feel lead to, not because of the pressure of the green peoples.

There is also a HUGE lesson to be learned here about communication here. If I am out of the loop, and people keep telling me to “BE GREEN.” Chances are I’m not only going to be confused, but also offended. Clear communication is key and the inner jargon we create can make the water muddy (especially in the church world). More on this tomorrow…

Maybe you’ve felt pressure to be green? Maybe you are green ? Maybe you hate the idea of green green? Maybe you thought you’d never see a post that had the word “GREEN” in it so much? Either way…share with us! How do you feel about GREEN things!? :)

“When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why
Wonder, I am green and it’ll do fine, it’s beautiful
And I think it’s what I want to be”

More people are going green these days because it’s the hottest trend popping right now. Doesn’t it seem like everywhere you go someone is trying to encourage you to join the club? Well, hey you might as well because you’re probably participating in green activity and don’t even know it. Every time you pay a bill online or re-use a bag you’re doing something to help preserve the planet. That’s what encouraged me to make the change, and now it’s apart of my daily routine.

One of the most recent changes I have made was switching to bioheat. If you’re really into the green thing then this is your new best friend. It consists of heating oil blended with biodegradable organic products like soybean oil. It may sound a little funky but it’s actually FABULOUS! And during the cold seasons it works wonders. Instead of having to layer on the sweatshirts and thermals I look to bioheat to keep me warm and toasty. It hasn’t let me down so far.

Here at NORA we are encouraged to explore and find out new and interesting info. I got a lot of really great tips from:

Be sure to check it out and see what other cool info it has to make your transition as easy as mine was.

Thanks for encouraging Vanessa and I to recycle! Matthan and I just got back from our Friday morning trip to the recycling center. Hopefully, he will learn from an early age the importance of taking care of everything that God has given to us.
