Somewhere there’s…
…an apprehensive single mom who’s skeptical of leaving her 7 week old with anyone. She is very protective and unknowingly burned out! She needs a break, she needs a church but she keeps asking, “who can she trust…?”
…a 3 year old who suffers from separation anxiety and freaks out if left alone in the dark. The only peace they have is when their parents are with them 24/7. The child needs to know about Jesus, the exhausted parents need an answer, but they keep asking, “who can we trust…?”
…a special needs family. They’ve tried church before but were always told that the church couldn’t accommodate their needs. They’ve been hurt, rejected, and pushed away. They want to give church just one more try but they keep asking, “who can we trust…?”
…a 4th grader whose parents abuse and lie each other, do drugs, and yell at them for no reason. They cry themselves to sleep at night and they cope by developing a hardened heart to it all. They NEED an answer, they want to feel safe again, but they keep asking, “who can I trust…?”
Although each situation is made up…they are still very real! The answer to each situation is…JESUS! Tragically though, many times people don’t tie the two together. Unfortunately, the last place most un-churched people feel they can trust is…the church (especially the CM in it).
That’s why for me, CM isn’t a joke! CM isn’t about frills and flannel boards. It isn’t about pastels and bunnies. Its real people, with real pain that need Jesus!
We have the opportunity to reach out to children and families in a way that can catalyst life change on so many levels by showing and telling them WHO Jesus is. That’s why I dream of a CM that… (oh wait, that’s tomorrows post)…
Yeah, so more tomorrow, but in the mean time…what kind of CM do you dream of…?
