I thought about putting these pics up via “twitpic” but I thought it would be much more fun this way!!
However, before I reveal the pics, let me share some of the facts…
- The tat is on my left forearm (underside).
- The pics are taken from my phone, so they aren’t GI-NORMOUS!
- It took about 1 hour to do.
- Todd did that tat (Artistic Ink, Anderson SC) and did a GREAT job!!
- Each pic shows the various stages of the tattoo being create.
- For me, seeing the tattoo in stages helps me better understand the process…I like that!
- The ‘redness’ is just irritation, not part of the tat.
- Yes, the tattoo has meaning…
- I’m going to be sharing more about this on Monday and WHY the meaning of this tattoo has meaning to me!
- However, for a sneak peak preview, check out John 3:30
I think that’s it! Here are the pics (in order of stages)!! Let me know what you guys think and GOOOOO TIGERS!!

My son loves your tattoo (and your “wild, crazy” hair)! He is just shy, so he wouldn’t tell you himself at church Sunday.

Wow. I don’t have a tattoo but my sister does.
Just curious how do the parents feel about this. I am sure it has come up over the dinner table.

Sam,
Great question!! It’s also one I thought long and hard about (and checked my spirit on) before I jumped in! One parent told me how my tat opened the door for her to tell her son and his friend about Jesus (see “the meaning” post).
Ironically, tattoos and piercings seem to get a slight (even if unsaid) frown to them in CM, but in Student ministry…they’re super rad!
But hey, its a great question! It may even open up some great dialog on here!
Thanks Sam!

In my experience, these days, just as in Jesus’s day, it is usually the religious people who have problems with the outside of the person. I find your heart a wonderful asset to NewSpring and to our children. I thank God for a church that allows real people to be real and that has a passion for the lost and dying world around us! My husband and I have prayed for years for a true place to worship where literally everyone is equal at the foot of the cross. God is so good!

ok me again .. i have to chime in on the parent aspect. I have 3 kids of my own. My oldest (now in 8th grade FUSE @newspring) met Pudge when the church was still at the college, She was in 3rd grade. The VERY first thing she said to me when i picked her up was “mom my leader had a eyebrow ring” Now to most this would be a negative thing BUT to my family it meant the world… We would finally be accepted for who we were. I wasnt really aware but my daughter had been paying more attention than i thought (dont they always?) She knew I had been literally asked to remove my nose ring at one church and ignored and scoffed (sp?) at by up turned noses at another … Just my two cents. Thanks Pudge (and the rest of newspring) for being who you are and not “conforming” I grew up in a family where my grandmother actually told me “if God wanted you to have holes in your ears he would have put them there. When Jesus comes back your earrings will turn to tar and melt” Now find THAT one in the bible for me!
