I wanted to find out more about my metabolism, what affects this metabolism thing and what does this “based on a 2000 calorie per day” thing mean anyway? I mean, how many calories am I supposed to have in a day? Surely everyone’s calorie intake isn’t the same…is it? No, it’s not.

What I found was a formula…

RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) X AC (Activity Coefficient) = my daily recommended # of calories

From there it’s simple, eat above this number…you gain weight. Eat below it…you lose. So, how do you find your RMR and your AC? Simple.

To find your RMR…

MEN:

  • (4.54*Weight in pounds)+(2.44*Height in inches)-(4.92*Age)+5

WOMEN:

  • (4.54 x Weight in pounds) + (2.44 x Height in inches) – (4.92 x Age) - 161

To find your AC…

MEN:

  • Sedentary: AC = 1.55
  • Moderately Active: AC = 1.78
  • Very Active: AC = 2.10

WOMEN:

  • Sedentary: AC = 1.56
  • Moderately Active: AC = 1.64
  • Very Active: AC = 1.82

One more thing, my next question was…”How do I know how many calories something has?” The result will shock you but THIS WEBSITE has A LOT of FREE resources for you on this. My favorite is that you can text “Food (insert food name here)” to 432584 and it will send you the info you need. Pretty cool huh?

Enjoy. I hope this helps you guys like it’s helped me! :)

You may have already seen this, but since you are running outside and not on a treamill that automatically tells you how much you’ve burned I thought it could be helpful. You just enter your weight and how far you ran and it tells you how many calories you burned. Neat, huh?

    Pudge,

I commend you on all your efforts! I just thought I’d share my story too. You can read it here: http://lindseyhorn.blogspot.com/search/label/weight%20loss

After spraining my wrist and now having sinusitis and bronchitis, my exercise has fallen to almost none, so all prayers are greatly appreciated!

Thanks again for all you do!
