Leading for tomorrow is a new series of post I’m starting based on the leadership lessons God is teaching me daily about what it takes to lead for tomorrow in ministry.  As leaders we have a choice, we can see things in a new light and be proactive about leading people there or we can maintain the status quo and be retroactive about leading everyone around us.  The later doesn’t glorify God.

Again, I am NO expert…always a student (just sharing what I’m learning)! :)

RECOGNIZING the need for LEADERs

The true heart of a leader is passionate about leading people somewhere.  That leadership is rarely ever about “getting” our people to a certain point, because, if we are leading correctly, that certain point (or “bar”) gets raised each time.  I’m learning leadership is about leading our people on a journey and helping to grow them in Christ as we go.

Now, if any of us were going on a field trip tomorrow with 40 kids, there’s not a chance in hates that you would go at it alone.  Nope, you would find and appoint leaders to help you with this journey.  You do this because you recognize that you can’t help, guide, protect and care for 40 kids all your own…especially on a journey.

To me it amazing that we would do this when we are talking about kids, but when we are talking about our teams (some that may be very young Christians) we don’t think this way.  We will shuck off tasks to people we call leaders, but rarely do we lead up a team of leaders that can help us guide, grow, pray for and care for the larger team.

As a result we grow a team that is spiritually weak and very brittle!  So much so that when life comes, and they (or we) aren’t spiritually ready…they (or we) break!

Many might agree with all this and feel the need to FIND those leaders and hire them today!  My question is…why hire an all star volunteer just because they are an all-star volunteer?  Maybe God called them to be an all-star volunteer leader…

However…I’m getting too much into the next post “recognizing a leader” (because it may not be what you thought…) :)

Until next time…
