One of the great advantages out there today to people who blog and read blogs is a thing called RSS (Really Simple Syndication). By now, most are probably familiar with the concept. In a nutshell, RSS is simply a web-based feed from a blog or a podcast that’s going to provide you with the text summary of that content.
For me, one of the best RSS tools out there is www.feedburner.com . FeedBurner is a web feed management provider that provides an RSS feed to subscribed readers of blogs and podcasts they want to recieve. Feedburner launched in 2004 and was its own thing but in 2007 was aquired by www.google.com . Within 2 months some of their best services became free to users.
As a blogger, here are some of the advantages of FeedBurner…
- Traffic analysis of subscribers
- Consolidation of all your RSS feeds into one great one
- Provides ways to advertise your feed to others on the web that might not normally see it
- “Pingshot” which sends notification to others when new content goes up
- Allows email subscriptions
- Opens access to automatically push content in social networks like Twitter & Facebook
- Replenishes your feed as HTML
- Allows you to use Goog AdSense in your feed
- And much more
Feedburner is a tool I’m very thankful for and that I wouldn’t want to go without!! The best part, it’s Google!
