We live in a world that demands instant & correct results! We don’t like to wait or have to repeat ourselves. And, any failure to comply to our expectations leads us to assume the only explanation must be an apathetic attitude from the ‘opposing’ party.

Don’t agree…?

  • What’s our attitude when we have to wait a long time in a drive thru line AND they get our order wrong?
  • What’s our attitude when the movie messes up at the theater AND it takes them way too long to fix it?
  • What about when our power goes out AND they won’t answer the phone…then finally we get an automated answer that says “It is unknown when the power in your area will be back on. Thank you. Good bye.”…REALLY?!

Situations that call for patience can be very hard. When you add to that, an expectation not being met that we believe we are privy to, it gets even harder. However, I’m learning that a “failure to comply” doesn’t always mean “they” are apathetic.

Not everything in life is instant or correct (the first time). When working with people, that’s even more true! It doesn’t mean “the people” don’t care, it just means that some things take time. I’m learning that great leaders get that & lead through it with…

  • Vision
  • Patience
  • Accountability
  • Trust
  • Love
  • Repeating communication
  • Listening
  • Understanding
  • More love & trust

It doesn’t mean we compromise in any way! It just means we realize that many times results take time, understanding & patient persistence more than a list of demands that we follow up on. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not there yet, but I’m trying! :-)
Just what I’m learning…
