Over the past few years I’ve noticed a greater need in the world to share (constantly changing) information among multiple people. I’ve also noticed over the past few years how much I totally stink at sharing information!! So the following is what I am learning daily right now from the awesome people around me about how I can be a better sharer! :)
Now with sharing, I’m not necessarily talking about the church world, but literally everywhere. For example…

  • How do airports share constantly changing information about planes?
  • How do hospitals share constantly changing patient information?
  • How do the police share information about people’s previous “short comings?”

Again, it’s not to say that these situations didn’t exist before…for whatever reason it just came to my mind more lately. Also, sharing information to 1 or 2 people is easy and done through just a simply an email. But what about the information that needs to constantly be updated and changed?

So, with that I began to think…what are some different ways we share information with volunteers and across campuses that are successful? I realized that God has blessed us with some great tools to share information. For instance…

Google Sites

This is a great resource that Google provides to share information that you need to get to multiple users. We have used this resource to share information across campuses and it’s been great! :)

Fellowship One

This is a church data base that we use that provides so many services to use. Any type of database is normally great for sharing information, but this one is growing and constantly getting better!!

Google Docs

This is another resource offered by Google that allows you to share Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents with others. At the same time, you can choose to let (the people) you share with to be collaborators (can add to/change information) or viewers (can simply view the document).

Sharing information is great! Maybe you guys have found some other great ways to share information? Well…share them with us! :)

Over the years I’ve learned that the best way to get someone to come to church…is personal invitation! That’s not to say that billboards, T-shirts and ads don’t work, I think they do! However, the most successful method of getting people in the doors and taking that first step, is to ask them!

Likewise, I’m finding that the most successful way to get new people volunteering in our ministries is to…ask them. Many times we stray from this because…

  • We don’t want to PUSH something on them
  • They might not like our area of ministry
  • It can be awkward
  • They might say no…

The truth is these are all legitimate fears, but they don’t take away from the fact that “the ask” works. At the same time I’ve learned that I should be prayerful with every conversation. Realizing that my role is to help people take their next step…whatever that may be.

Many times people are just standing there waiting for someone to ask them to take their next step and get plugged in volunteering. That being the case, “the ask” is such a powerful tool to help others find their “sweet spot!”

I’ve just got to be willing to ask…
